Family History

A look at Link through the ages.

The Legend of Zelda
z1-Link2.jpg (23510 bytes) Link started out very one dimensional in-game. We had all four views of him: front, back, left, and right. But no more than that. And as for the artwork, he looked rather odd. He was drawn rather dwarfish in most of the art. Rather similar to a hobbit, in my opinion.

Zelda II: The Adventure of Link

Now in the second game, we see a little improvment. All dungeons, towns, and battles were done in a side-scrolling view. Hence we get to see more of Link. We get a little more detail on everything, from his body to his weapons. And the art has improved, showing him as a young lad.

Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past

The third game is the first game where they started drawing Link with golden hair instead of brown hair. Personally, I was upset. I thought he looked really hot the way he was. But then I got used to the color change. And in keeping with the first game, this game was also a top-view game. But this one, being on the SNES, had more colors and a lot more depth than the original.

Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening

In his first Gameboy adventure, Link is not in Hyrule. Which is quite a switch, seeing as the first three were all in Hyrule. We are back to a top view, but again we get a little more depth than in previous games. And it is also weird that the main villan is not Ganon.

Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time

This is the first of the Zelda games that has gone true 3D. We get to see both a younger Link and an older Link, both in incredible 360° angels. While a little blocky around the hands, this game is still a master compared to the older ones.

Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask

Returning to the N64, this game focuses more on young Link. The graphics were about the same as the previous game, but here we get to see other forms of Link rather than just human. And again the villan is not Ganon, which is a nice change.

Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Ages/Seasons

These two games take place in a land other than Hyrule, though Zelda is in one for a short time. We see the same graphics that were used in the first Gameboy game, but with color this time. And the artwork shows a younger Link, though possibly a bit older than in the N64 games.

Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker

In his first Gamecube game, they got away from the previous wonderful 3D of the N64. Instead Link is given a cell shaded makeover, making him look almost like a kiddie cartoon. While this did take some getting used to, I found this game really nice. And the artwork looks almost Celtic in style, which is a plus with me.

Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess

While not much is known about this game, the images that have found their way to the net are very nice. if Nintendo keeps with it this time, then I believe this game will be very popular. The art and the in-game images are just the hottest images of Link to be seen yet. And the game looks one step away from real.

Legend of Zelda: The Minish Cap

In his first new GBA game, it seems that Link takes another trip to a strange land. And, even more odd, his cap comes alive! Yep, that's right. Link's cap now has a mind, and voice, of it's own. I think he'd rather have a fairy or something. That cap doesn't look very friendly at times. I can't wait to find out how the heck it happened. Poor kid! z11-sprite.jpg (11783 bytes)

Soul Caliber II

I haven't played this game yet, but BOY does Link look HOTT! It looks so cool to see him kicking some butt in the previews. I'm just glad I was able to get a Gamecube. And the in-game doesn't look nearly as blocky as he did in the N64 games, nor as cartoonish as Wind Waker. He looks oh-so real and very yummy.

Super Smash Brothers/Melee

I loved both these games, though I tended to play Princess Peach more than anyone. But I loved Link too. Especially when you get him to do his little pose. He looks so sexy running his hand through his hair like that. Or adorably innocent. It's hard to tell when you can't see facial expressions very well. But the in-game is still really hot. Not overly realistic but it still looked really nice.
